The Land Rover began as a product of the Rover Company in 1948. The original Land Rover vehicles were very unique having a steering wheel in the middle of the vehicle. This would allow the Land Rover to be sold in both left hand and right hand driving countries. Later a model would be introduced with treads as an option. Land Rover is also credited as being the first to come out with a monster truck in the 1950s. Large tractor tires were attached to a Series IIA Land Rover along with some suspension and drive train modifications. The Land Rover Defender 110 was classified as a Bus since to could comfortably fit 12 people. This made the Defender 110 exempt from taxes put on passenger vehicles in the UK.
